Golf Poniente is just 10 minutes west of Magaluf and
is a course with two distinct characters. On the north side of the
road there are seven holes which are laid out on flat, open terrain,
but these are no pushovers. The 11 holes on the south side are entirely
different. With undulating fairways, ravines and avenues of pines,
every tee shot calls for extreme accuracy. The 16th requires an arrow-straight
drive with trees closing in on the left.
Push your tee shot to the right and you'll need parascending skills
to recover your ball. The 10th is considered perhaps the
best hole on the course. From the elevated tee you're faced with two
bunkers which are perfectly placed on the knuckle of this dogleg right,
par-4 to catch a wayward shot. There is also a
lake strategically positioned in the fold - just in case you clear
the sand - and a lake and a large bunker on the right and left of
the green respectively, which means a very accurate second shot is
required too.
The course is also equipped with a spacious driving range, two shortgame
greens with bunkers and generous putting areas.
The ambiance of the clubhouse at Golf Poniente resembles an authentic
Mallorcan dwelling, with high timber ceilings, stone floors and a
large open fireplace. Outside in the courtyard you can just sit, relax
and take in some sun with a few beers while contemplating a better
score on your next visit to this most splendid course.
