Playing at Poniente you will feel you are well away from the hustle and bustle of the hot spots of this popular holiday island. The course has a number of memorable features, most of them golf related. It is not too hilly and so fairly easy on the legs but it is no less interesting for all that.
There are a number of deceptive doglegs to negotiate, a few gently sloping fairways and some cunningly placed ponds to catch the unwary. The 10th hole is one example where a loose drive or second shot could see your ball come to a watery tUld. rhe long par-three l 2th can also be a problem if you let your ball drift towards the big pond to the right of the green. Unusually for golf courses in Europe, the tee boards here not only show distances in metres but also in yards. How sensible!
Golf buggies are readily available and there is no necessity to stay on the paths. In fact, across most of the course there are no paths. Even so. it was noticeable that many players were happy to leg it around the course, a sign, perhaps, that the Meditcnranean sun is still reasonably comfortable in April and that there are not too many hills to negotiate.
A round of golf at Poniente will cost 9.200pts (E£34) and a buggy a further 6.000pts (C£22). Nine-hole rounds are available at 6.000pts.
